The Patio Project

It has not been quite a year since we purchased this 30 something year old home...... since  July we have been project crazy.... the home did not have a "realistic" driveway (it had not been rocked in years (there is nothing wrong with rocked driveways by the way) and had a curve and everyone about ended up in the ravine when backing out) so the first project was straightening the driveway and knocking out some trees.. a blacktop driveway with a turn around spot, that all involved some bulldozing!  Then we laid some new flooring in the kitchen, dining room and hallway.  The next on the list was a storage shed and landscaping.... The project I love the most is what Mark has been working on and it is almost completed!  A paved patio, it required an upper retaining wall and tons of sweat.....  We still have some detailed finishing work to do, cutting the stone's on the edge......

AND because you know how one thing always leads to another the picture below shows where we are going to add a second level to the patio.... these stones below will be removed to add a stairway down to the second level.....

AND the firepit we have on this level will be removed and put on the lower level, I  know sounds like a lot of work but this was all of my hubby's idea and I think it sounds fantastic!!

AND tonight we are breaking in the grill with some fantastic steak that my son in law raises!!!  We might even have a fire in the firepit!

I am sure we will get years of enjoyment out of this addition to our home!!!

Happy Weekend!  Nancy

Bathroom shelf

On  Monday, Mark and I got the shelf up that I made plus two glass shelves on the wall above the hand towel.  When I get home next week hopefully I will get my decorating all finished in the bathroom,  I have some more shelves to make!  I love my nail gun!

Knock Off Wood project!

I will let you guess which one is Pottery Barn and which one is Knock Off Woods? (the one I made?)

I love making things myself!  In the craft room office I had a Bedford Corner Desk from Pottery Barn and through my daughter Jala found this awesome website http://www.knock-offwood.com/ and found a pattern for the corner desk and base units... So I began my venture for making it... I went to Lowe's with my trusty little (3 page long cut list) for the desk... I left it at the projects desk because they told me they were way too busy to cut it right then, it took them 4 days and then had to go back 3 more times to get all the pieces.  Lesson learned was not to leave them the list but to stay with them as they cut it to make sure they understand the plans and get it all done!  I purchased a nail gun to use with the air compressor which was Awesome!!!  (give a girl a nail gun and look out!)  The desk was amazingly easy to do because Ana is so awesome on KOW at every little detail...  It took 3 days to finish completely... one day to put together, (then another trip to Lowe's for missing pieces) then a day to paint the whole thing!  I was so thrilled with the outcome I sent the pictures to Knock Off Woods and to my astonishment she featured me on her blog one day on The Bragging Post!!! I really wasn't trying to BRAG I was just amazed that I could build something!!! Here is the link if you care to go look at it...  http://www.knock-offwood.com/2010/05/bragging-board-calling-all-detectives.html I was quite honored!
