Scarfette

Here is what I did while riding back from Southern Illinois, Thanks to my sister Jean for this pattern, it is a quick knit!  I have 3 done now, even got one finished this morning to and from church!  I have an hour round trip drive so see it truly is a quick knit!

The pattern is super easy!
Use bulky yarn, I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Quick and Thick
Use size 13 needles, cast on 9 stitches,
row one: knit one, purl one (seed stitch)  all the way through the row!
row two: same as row one!  knit one purl one!
In each row you start with a knit and end with a knit! Depending on how bulky your yarn is it will end up about 4 inches wide but it is ok if it is not as wide!  Knit about 21-23 inches and put a button or buttons about anywhere you want because the big stitches make it easy for a button to go through!  I made another while I had my morning coffee!

I just entered this on the Boardwalk!

Dining Room Chandelier!

For those of you that I have kept in suspense as to what I was putting up for a chandelier..... a) buy a new one ...  b)  paint and redo the old one.....

I went with b.... painted the old one silver and ooollllllaaaaa lllllaaaaaa  it looks great!

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day has come and gone and you are seeing the only pictures I took that day!  The little ones all had so much fun playing, somehow their Great Uncle David became a human roller coaster ride and the kids were squealing.... although I bet he had trouble walking the next day....

Thankfullness

There is always so much to be thankful for!  I am thankful for my family, for good health and a warm home!  I am thankful that Jala's gall bladder surgery went so well, I called it a drive by surgery!  My granddog CoCo was spade the same day and they kept the dog longer than the hospital kept Jala!  Now something is wrong with that picture!  I am thankful that she is doing so well and pray she heals quickly (with 3 little ones under the age of 3, she has a demanding life!)  but thankfully she has a helpful husband!

I am thankful for God putting Mark into my life!  I am thankful that our kids and grandkids are healthy, thankful for the new additions to our families this year.... Megan married Kevin.... Amber and Dan had their 3rd child but first son, John and Jala had their third child and second son... So I am ever grateful for our families near and far away! I am Thankful for God's Amazing Grace and for sending his Son Jesus....

Thanksgiving to me is a state of mind and heart, not just a day!

Have a blessed day tomorrow with your family and friends!

Week in Review

Last week I took a vacation from painting.... went to visit the Birthday girl and her family.... it was a good week, also got some more things out of my garage!  Came home on Saturday and had a housefull of people for Thanksgiving Supper Sunday evening.... Monday my oldest daughter was having her gall bladder removed and thankfully that went well, now just praying for a speedy recovery!  She has 3 small children that need their mamma!!

Somehow in the collage I am posting I realized I had taken none of baby Otto!!!

Birthday Wreath

Because I am taking a break from painting for a few days....  while visiting at the Ramsey household someone had a birthday and turned 3!  I saw this somewhere and decided that each of our kids families needed a Birthday Wreath to help make Birthdays even more special!  I better get busy cause "C" has a December birthday and "J" has a January birthday!  So here is the wreath I made it took 15 packages of size 9" balloons (so that is like 375 balloons of course if I hadn't gotten the biggest stinkin straw wreath I could find it wouldn't have taken so many!).  I also used floral picks to attach the balloons to the wreath!

Have an awesome Friday everyone!  I am heading home in the morning!

The Paint

I forgot to put this on my blog.... I linked up to the Boardwalk this week with my kitchen project!!
For those of you that are curious here is where I got my stainless steel paint....  it also gives you a hint of what I am getting ready to do to the countertops!  http://www.liquidstainlesssteel.com/giani/products.html  I bought these kits before I even started upstairs but am so glad I saved this all for the last big hoopla!  I am in love with the stainless paint on the backsplash... in my past two homes I have had the old fashioned ceiling tin that I ordered from m-boss  http://www.m-boss.com/ but decided I would try the stainless paint first... (which by the way the real stuff from m-boss is much cheaper in price than the  fake plastic stuff from Lowes and is not that hard to put up you just need a good pair of tin snips!)  I really didn't mind the leaf design in the tiles already in the kitchen!  I just didn't care for the dreary look!  I still have to put the sealing protectant on but wanted to wait to make sure I didn't need to touch up the paint first!

I am busy right now visiting my grandbabies!  I enjoyed spending time with the Smith's yesterday and now I am visiting with the Ramsey's!   So I will enjoy my time away from painting for a few days and upon returning home I will be preparing Thanksgiving Dinner this weekend!  Have a good week!

Be Blessed!

THE KITCHEN

Are you ready to see the Kitchen???  It looks great and I am so pleased with it.... the flooring will get replaced after Thanksgiving, we ran out of time!

The window I have had for several years and it appears to have been made for this window!!!  The breakfast nook will soon be transformed as well!  NOTE I even painted stainless steel paint on the dishwasher and on the range hood!  Yes the nobs are missing on the corner cabinet, (I miscounted!)  Lowes here I come!

The BEFORE pictue of the Tile backsplash, I painted it with Stainless Steel paint!

What a difference it made in opening up the Kitchen by taking out the cabinet that was hanging in the middle over this counter!!!

I am ready for a little rest and relaxation, I have a grandaughter turning 3 today so I am heading south! I will be back Saturday! Mark is probably glad I am leaving so he can get a break! Stopping on my way to see the "J" Herd! So I will see all of my family in one day!

Oh and here is the best picture I could come up with in a hurry of the kitchen before!  Painting the cabinets was a huge undertaking but so worth it!  By the way I didn't put new hinges on when I had the doors all apart I spray painted the hinges silver before putting it all back together!

More to be finished up before Christmas then I think I will become a couch potato... (NOT) How about soon I am not going to want a paint brush in my hand at all! I wake up and my hands are sore from painting!!!  Stay tuned and watch what I do to this counter top!   Have a good rest of the week!

You want real life well here it is in all of it's Glory!

We have been working the last several days on the kitchen.... remember this is a big challenge as we are merging two households!  The cabinets doors should be done by tomorrow, I am using bead board paintable wallpaper on the cabinet ends and around the window...  Just to show you a glimpse of the cabinets emptied out and in the merge process!  We are making headway it is just a BIG job!  We took out the cabinet that was overhead as a divider between the kitchen and breakfast nook... WOW does that look different...  Anyway it is coming together.... the kitchen area will be done for Thanksgiving!  So here is a look of what is going on here!
This window overlooks the back entry over the basement steps, so the window just allows some light in....But we took the shutters down, and I had this pained window that was painted with flower pots that I purchased a few years back at a craft show.

What do you think?  I love it here!  It was the perfect size!

Not a pretty shot but you can see the wonderful light Mr. B put up!!!

and a glimpse of the white cabinets!

doors drying everywhere

Yesiiree Bob that was all in the cabinets.... We have pretty much put into them what we want to keep!  So we have things laid aside for the kids.....

and yet another view...... it will be done it will be done!

Oh and the backsplash you see in the pictures will be painted with a stainless steel paint!

Just wanted to give you an update so you could see what we are up to these days!

Oh my goodness do I have a mess!

Well, let me just begin by saying, wow do I have a mess... I know, I know I should take a picture and show you.... Might I just say that at this exact moment I am too stinkin tired to do that?

I had the best of intentions to have the cabinets completely back together tonight.... Here is what we have done...

First of all Tuesday evening we completely emptied the cabinets onto 3 banquet tables in the dining room/living room... Oh my I have never seen so many glasses in all of my life!

Wednesday Mark helped me take down all of the cabinet doors, I washed them with simple green and took off all of the hardware... I then started priming the base cabinets.. That took all day yesterday to accomplish!

Today Mark took off work and stayed home to help me! First we put cardboard and paneling all over the back yard and laid out the doors. Mark started spraying the primer on all of the doors... It was overcast when we started and it didn't get any better all day! Finally, before noon he felt some raindrops and we set it all up in the garage to paint in there... He sprayed and he sprayed and he sprayed it took all day just to put the primer on both sides of the doors! While he was busy working away I painted the cabinet bases so they would be ready for the doors... and since two of us couldn't spray I started unpacking my boxes and organizing and purging things in the cabinets! One thing always leads to another and I ended up cleaning out the pantry as I was putting canned goods away. I got a lot of boxes unpacked, spray painted all of the hinges for the cabinets.. Tomorrow I will make a run to Lowe's to pick up the new knobs and handles for the doors and drawers! I have withdrawal systems when I don't go to Lowes's everyday, I hum the song to the old television show "Cheers" as I pull into the parking lot!

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

I did make a huge dent in the boxes we have stacked all over the house!  Looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish tomorrow and Thanking God for what we got done today!

On another note I am thankful for all the Veterans who served our country so selflessly... My grandfather James Earl Williams served in the Navy in WWI and my father James Lavern Williams and his two brothers Ross and Gene served in the Navy in  WWII.  Mark's father Robert Barr was in the Air Force and served in WWII and was then recalled for the Korean War, and his son Mike served in the Marines in the Iraqi War... So thank you to all the Veterans who so proudly served our country and allow us to have the freedoms we take for granted!

Hope you have had an awesome Thursday too!  I promise pictures tomorrow!

Painting still.....

Just in case you think I am not doing anything... think again!  I have been very busy!  Mark helped me yesterday by cutting some of the wood for the ?Wainscoating for the stairway... (not sure if that is what it is called) and today I used the automatic nailer and installed it and also cut and mitered the top rail!  YAY!  I am almost done with the painting.  Tomorrow in the daylight I will give you a better picture of what it looks like!

I spent Saturday pulling the carpet off the stairway and pulling staples and tack strip.... I really don't like that stuff cause you can really rip your hands up with it!

So here is a progression of pictures of where I am at tonight with it!

That is where I am at with my progress as of right now.... tomorrow I hope to start in the kitchen!!

mitre saw

I think I need one of these babies......

so I can do all those miter cuts since I just wasted 20 minutes on one cut via arm power on the cheapo human powered version  on the stairway and since we are trimming out the downstairs ourselves I think it might just come in pretty handy!!!  Gary used to always say "I cannot wait till your next project to see what kind of tools we get! (some things never change)!!!

Today's Accomplishments

Well I do believe the hallway is completed!  I still have some things to add to my decor (as soon as I find the box that holds them!)   But for now I am so pleased with how it looks!

I have to get going so I will catch you later!
Thanks for stopping by!

Hallway

As I have been working on finishing the upstairs, it seemed like an endless task of painting the woodwork and walls, nice size hallway.... I pulled up the carpet, padding and those nasty wood strips with tacks all over.... It seemed as though I would never get the woodwork finished... but alas I think I have about got that whipped! Other than the bifold doors which Mark hopes to install this weekend the upstairs is done!!! YAY! (that was a huge Yay!) I plan to do the stairway like this from Sawdust and Paper Scraps blog
Such a neat idea and it will look so good! So far this morning before I finish this is what the hallway looks like!

So I will keep you posted as I head down the stairs!  Have a Terrific Thursday!!!!
