Decorating....

I have been very busy this past week.......  shopping for trinkets to decorate the house with!  My favorite finds have been at TJ Max, and a couple of things at Tuesday Morning.... but TJ Max is much cheaper!  I had downsized when I moved to Robinson in 06 and got rid of sooooo much stuff!  Wished I had kept a few things but..... I didn't have the room to keep too much!  So I am having fun "decorating" with my new stuff!  I am off today to go buy a loveseat and a chair for the living room!  Looked at this yesterday and can't decide if I want this or real leather!  My family room furniture is leather and with pets I love it!  I plan to buy a zapper thing to keep the dogs out of certain rooms so I may not have to worry about that!

Love seat we have looked at!  Don't care for the pillows but the loveseat is pretty comfy and will look great in front of the fireplace!!!

love these chairs for the dining room!!
So off I go before the snow hits!!!!  When I get home I will take a ton of pictures of what I have been doing and will post so get ready to be bored!

Happy Monday everyone!

Drapery

Here are my after shots of the drapes!  I ended up putting shears under the drapes and love them!  It only added $55.00 to the project and that includes the rods for the shears!  So the grand total for the drapes and hardware for 5 huge windows is $216.00 ! I don't think that is bad at all!!!  Made me happy!

We still have to go furniture shopping for these two rooms!  Loveseats, chairs..... I think we are going to make the dining room table but I have some nice chairs picked out that I want to get!  So in the pictures you will see my makeshift dining room table!  I will post pictures when I am finished decorating the rooms!

Have an awesome week!

Window Treatments

I cannot believe I did not have my windows covered before Christmas..... but I was just trying to have other things done and simply ran out of time and energy!   So I have been stewing for some time as to just what to do to the windows in the Dining Room and Living Room/AKA Sitting Room....  My mother always said some of the best and cheapest fabric for your windows was sheets!  So off I went to Walmart..... it was the only place I could find the sheets sold individually at a cheap price!   I have 5 really big and tall windows in this 110 year old house!   I couldn't buy them all at one Walmart.... I cleared the shelves at the first Walmart the Twin Flat Sheets were a whopping $4.00 a piece and then went to another Walmart for the final 4 sheets and they were marked down to $3.00 a sheet!!!  They had been opened and some of the packaging was missing.  I didn't care!  So I have the material for 5 huge windows for a total of $36.00!  Now that was a bargain!
AND how was I going to make these drapes you might ask?  I decided to use the plastic grommets from Hancock Fabric I am sure JoAnn's carry them also!  They however were going to cost me more than all the sheets!  They were $11.00 a package and that would only take care of one panel... (WHICH by the way I put the grommets in the header of the sheet and didn't have to hem or sew anything!!!) YAY!!!  The nice thing about the plastic grommets is that I can pop them back out and use them again if I should ever decide to change the drapery!  Here is a picture tutorial of the process!  The hardest part was ironing them all!

They come with a little template of the circle and it is easy to cut out!

The template
The holes all cut out!

So I have a cost here of

Sheets $36.00
Grommets $110.00

That is $146.00 for 5 huge windows!!

I also had gotten new rods at Lowes on Black Friday on sale and spent right around $125.00 for some really nice rods!

So I will take finished pictures and add them into this post a little later!  Happy Monday to all of you!

Towels

My niece Aaron over at Mudpies and Marigolds  gave the description on how to do this cool project of transferring black and white prints a couple of weeks back and being a visual person, I did a little tutorial with pictures.... I had actually wanted to do this BEFORE Christmas but hmmmmm I had too much on my plate to do it even though I had everything copied and ready to go......

First of all you need to download some vintage prints or come up with your own black and whites.... the graphics fairy ...  has a ton of free prints you can download!

You need to print these out on your printer and take them to a copy store I went to Kinkos and asked for a black and white printer.... IT HAS TO BE a Laser printer that is only for Black and White!  That was the easy part the hard part was finding the CitraSolv it is a natural product that is concentrated and used for cleaning!  I checked their website and they had several stores listed as carrying the product but not all of the stores they had listed actually had CitraSolv so save yourself some time and frustration and call first to make sure they actually have it!  I found it for $11.98 at a Health Food Store in Davenport, Iowa called Greatest Grains.

so here is the Supply List

* Q Tips
* Black and white prints
* CitraSolv
* Masking Tape/Painters Tape
* Old Paper Bags for protecting the surface you are working on
* Metal Spoon to burnish the image.....
* A tightly woven fabric I used the Tea Towels from Target I think you can get them at Walmart also!  4 to a package for around $5.00

I printed out names that I printed in Mirror Image on my printer then took to Kinko's!

CitraSolv

Pack of Tea Towels

My images that I printed in mirror image (the only ones that need mirror image are number and letters)

Tape it down to your fabric

Dip your Q tip in CitraSolv and rub onto your image

When you have covered your image with the CitraSolv using the QTip take your spoon and burnish the image really well onto the fabric!

I said really well!

Then Peel back the taped paper and ooooollllllllaaaaaa laaaaaa

There is your image!

I laid a piece of brown paper sack below the image and above it and ironed it, this helped to evaporate the excess CitraSolv!
Thanks Aaron for this cool idea!!!  Aaron is very creative and has some awesome decorating ideas on her blog!

The quietness....

You mammas out there know what I mean..... after having a houseful of children and grandchildren the quietness of the house can almost seem eerie!

I left as some of our company did on Monday morning to go down to Amber's to visit a few days....  On the way down I stopped off to see my dear friend Kaye and how she has made her home so lovely!  I also had the privilege of seeing her new grandson!  What a beautiful baby!

Can you just not tell how much this Nana loves this little guy?

Please pray for this adoption to proceed quickly!

Amber and I also took a trip down to Galatia to see my Mother...... Oh how her eyes lit up when she saw us!  She so enjoyed seeing Baby Otto for the first time and I do think she remembered Abigail and Capri since she saw them so much while she lived in Robinson!  She got a kick out of watching the girls dance around the room and she loved holding Otto!

I became ill with the nasty stomach flu on Wednesday evening and headed home Thursday evening after sharing the flu with Amber's family so far 3 of them have it too.... I am so sorry that happened... I washed and washed my hands but afraid the damage was done before I got sick because I loved on all the little ones!  Poor Amber!  Thursday morning when Capri got up she said " Nana is still alive"  I guess she thought I was going to croak!  Not so sure I didn't think the same thing!  haha!

Well now I am off to shower, and get around..... I have my beans cooking ( a family tradition to start the New Year with Ham and Beans)  I guess to bring it in with a bang?    I have tried everything to make the beans less gassy, from soaking them in 7-up to bean-o!!!! To NO avail!  So I am planning to take down the Christmas decorations that it seems like I just put up!    Then I am cleaning "This Old House" that is  how I will  welcome in the New Year!

What a wonderful year I have had!  :)  God is Good!  As I look back at this past year.... I fell in Love with Mark, we got married and I fall more in love with him each day!  We had two beautiful grandsons born, a daughter got married,  and we have gotten most of the house redone!
Happy New Year to all of you!  May God richly Bless YOUR lives this New Year!
